Deodorise Naturally with Lemons
Posted on July 22 2026
Our lemon tree is still producing an abundance of fruit, and it's always good to find other ways to use them. This simple kitchen tip is quick, effective, and a great reminder that lemons are useful for so much more than making drinks, cooking, and baking.
Did you know that lemons make a fantastic natural deodoriser for both your hands and wooden chopping boards?

After preparing foods like garlic, onions or fish, simply cut a lemon in half and rub the cut side over your hands. The fresh lemon juice helps neutralise lingering odours while leaving your hands feeling clean and refreshed.
Lemons are also great for freshening wooden chopping boards. Simply rub half a lemon over the surface, leave the juice to sit for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water and allow the board to dry thoroughly. The natural citric acid helps freshen the surface and remove lingering odours, leaving your board smelling wonderfully clean.
Of course, lemons aren't a substitute for proper cleaning. Chopping boards should always be washed thoroughly with hot, soapy water after use - especially after preparing raw meat, poultry or seafood.
Think of the lemon as a natural deodoriser that helps remove stubborn smells and leaves your board feeling fresh between washes.
Sometimes the best cleaning solutions are the simplest ones!
