Posted on July 15 2026

Have you ever tried this old-fashioned trick to keep spinach green when cooking it?

This tip is super easy and actually works, it helps your greens stay beautifully vibrant instead of turning dull.

The best part? You probably already have the secret ingredient sitting in your pantry.

The secret is Baking Soda

Simply add a tiny pinch to the pot while your spinach is cooking. It helps the spinach retain its beautiful bright green colour instead of turning that dull, dark green we often see after boiling.

The trick is not to overdo it - a very small pinch is all you need. Cook the spinach just until it's wilted, then drain and serve straight away for the freshest flavour, colour and texture.

Sometimes it's the simplest old-fashioned kitchen tips that make the biggest difference. Give it a try next time you're cooking spinach and see the difference for yourself!
