This is a pattern I came across when looking for a good quality face mask that can be made at home out of 100% cotton. What I liked about this design is that there’s a pocket for a filter – you can use a coffee filter and then dispose of it after a few uses and put a new one in.

There’s also additional instructions for using fabric ties made from cotton, ready-made bias binding or t-shirt material instead of elastic ear loops.

To make your mask you’ll need a sewing machine, 100% cotton with a tight weave, elastic or fabric for ear loops, fabric scissors, a ruler, pins or clips and thread.

Here’s some info from Sarahmaker.com regrading the fabric, for the pattern click the link below.

“Test data shows that the best choices for DIY fabric masks are cotton t-shirts, pillowcases, or other cotton materials. Using a double layer of material for your DIY mask adds a small increase in filtration effectiveness.

Other research has found that most effective masks were constructed of two layers of heavyweight “quilters cotton” with a thread count of at least 180, and had a thicker and tighter weave.
