As of November 12th we joined most of the developed world and can now legally consume hemp seeds here in New Zealand!

Hemp seeds (also known as hemp hearts) are the most super of superfoods.

They’re incredibly versatile and can easily be added to most savoury dishes, their smooth nutty flavour is divine.

These super seeds are packed full of protein (more than 25% of their total calories are from high-quality protein), are rich in essential fatty acids; linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3) and also contain gamma-linolenic acid, which has been linked to several health benefits.

They’re also going to help revolutionise our regional economies. Food Safety Minister Damien O’Connor had this to say

“Regional economies are the biggest winners of rule changes that allow hemp seed to be treated as just another edible seed. This is great news for the local hemp industry, which has argued for decades that the production of hemp seed foods will stimulate regional economies, create jobs and generate $10-20 million of export revenue within 3 to 5 years.”

As soon as hemp seeds are available from our supplier HempFarm (who already supply our hemp seed oil and caps) we will have them up on our site and ready for sale, hopefully in time for Christmas.

It is an exciting time at HempFarm and we are celebrating now that hemp seeds are allowed for Human consumption here in New Zealand! We have all been waiting and campaigning for a very long time and now the time has finally arrived that we can all consume delicious and nutritious de-shelled hemp seeds, protein powders and more and not just our beloved pets yay!

These delicious and nutritious seeds are finally accessible for everyone.

Hemp seeds are a highly nutritious super seed that you and your customers will be able to enjoy. They are a complete protein containing all essential amino acids, all essential fatty acids, magnesium and an array of vitamins and minerals in every serving!! They can be added to porridge, smoothies, sprinkle on breakfast lunch and dinner. Blend them with water to make milk, make butters, cheese, so many uses and of course they taste amazing!!

We will be continuing to supply you with our popular high quality certified organic Canadian products, which will soon also include de-shelled seeds, protein powders and our ever popular flakes. Plus in addition, we will have our very own NZ spray free de-shelled too. We plan to have stock available for your store before Christmas.

Our hemp seeds can compliment all of your creation and add that extra goodness to your meal.
HempFarm is also in the process of putting together our very own organic certified food processing facility, where we will produce lots of New Zealand grown food products in the near future. We have over 450 ha of crops going into the ground this year and next year we plan 2000ha, it is an exciting time for hemp and we have lots more news to come regarding the fiber from the stalk too!
