It’s been quite a year – and now more than ever we realise the importance of being outdoors as it helps to make us feel calmer and more relaxed.

This week lifestyle blogger Stella Green Thompson shares her top six tips on how to create a more ‘Earthy’ vibe in your home which can help to improve your mood as well as your well-being

Earthy materials and details are becoming more and more popular both among environmentalists as well as those who simply want to stay connected to nature indoors too.

Colours are Everything

Painting your walls into a different colour can make a huge difference to your overall mood. This is why you should carefully consider what colours you pick for your walls.

By just painting one wall green in your living room or home office you can boost your mood and reduce stress levels. This is an easy way to make your home more ‘Earthy’ and you don’t even have to paint the walls if you can’t be bothered. There are other ways to add colours to your interior.

For example, you can put up wallpapers with a botanical theme or Earthy tones. Green, brown, and hints of black are all great colours for this purpose. You can add colourful cushions and paintings to your living space as well.

Use Furniture Made of Natural Materials

Natural, organic materials, or even recycled materials are a great way to create an Earthy vibe in your home. Wooden furniture, for example, such as timber, oak, and pine, is always in style.

Consider getting a dining room table and chairs made of quality wood. The dining room table is where you and your family as well as your guests (if you entertain frequently) spend a lot of quality time sharing a meal and laughing. It is important that you feel relaxed in this area.

What’s great about wooden furniture is that it can be hand-crafted and finished in so many different ways to suit your tastes and preferences. Whether you’re into contemporary or rustic style, you can find a piece of wooden furniture to appeal to your eye.

Besides, furniture made of natural materials is very durable, which is partly the reason for its popularity.

Plants, Plants, Plants

Potted plants, indoor gardens, and even trees are the best way to achieve an Earthy feel. Plants and flowers go beyond just the aesthetic effect and help reduce stress levels as well as improve your mood. You can easily decorate with plants without surpassing your budget too.

If you’re into vertical gardens, you could find a wall near a window that gets plenty of light and hang baskets or pots with indoor plants. Add a bit of greenery in your living room, office, and even your bathroom. Speaking of bathrooms, a single plant and some earthy-smelling essential oil will go a long way in helping you relax.

Herbs in Your Kitchen

Another great way to add some greenery to your home is to place some herb plants in your kitchen. Not only are they a flavourful addition to your culinary masterpieces but they’re also very fragrant and can instantly make you feel as if you were in a real garden outside.

On the plus side, whenever you need fresh herbs for your homecooked meal, they’ll be right there.

Allow the Light In

Ditch the thick curtains and blinds in favour of the beautiful, natural light. If you want to add a dash of nature into your home, allowing in plenty of light is a must. Open up your home to enjoy the view outside, especially if you live in a peaceful, countryside area with lots of greenery.

Receiving enough light is vital for your mood, especially in winter when the days are gloomy and much shorter so we don’t get as much sunlight as in summer.

Speaking of light, you can get some crafty, interesting lamps or even wooden pendants to add even more emphasis to your home décor. Bamboo lanterns are a nice choice too.

It’s All In the Details

If you want to make your home more Earthy, you don’t necessarily have to invest a lot and redesign your entire house. Small details such as cushions, plates, and carpets, can really accentuate the Earthy vibe you’re striving to achieve. A simple rug or a sofa incorporated into the design of your home can transform the place. Even green coffee mugs or glasses are excellent details.

Textured and layered materials for cushions are a good way to go as well as for upholstery. A rustic set of plates, fur pieces, or even leather details are all excellent choices for adding a dash of nature into your home.

You can be as creative as you want with accessories made of natural, organic, or recycled materials to create the perfect Earthy atmosphere.
